The nearest village is about two miles away, Cala de Mijas, known as La Cala. there are two sizeable supermarkets, Mercadona and Super Sol. Both have a good range of all products both Spanish and English. They both have excellent Fish, Fruit and Butchery counters.
Bars and Restaurants - There are many bars and restaurants in Cala de Mijas, Spanish, Chinese, Thai, English, Indian and even a Fish and Chip shop. Biddy Mulligans, a traditional Irish bar, seems to be a meeting place for many English. If you want to get away from the English then venture the pleasant back streets where the Spanish seem to frequent. Be aware that prices here have risen in the last two years and are similar to England. Along the whole of this coast there are many fine restaurants, bars and night clubs.
Horse Racing - Situated within a couple of miles of the property is Mijas Hippodrome which is a well known horse racing venue. Race nights, in the summer, are an amazing experience. Horse Racing is combined with bars, music and dancing commening about midnight and finishing , I believe, about 6am. They know how to party. Race days and times are well advertised locally in Cala de Mijas.
White Village - The village of Mijas, an original white village is within about 15 minutes drive and well worth a visit. the village is perched on the side of a mountain, the views are amazing. Mijas attracts masses of tourists in the summer so choose the time of your visit carefully as these is so much to see.
Gibraltar is about 40 minutes drive, don't forget your passport, cigarettes and spirits are extremely cheap. Petrol and diesel are also very cheap, alot cheaper than Spanish mainland which at present is just over €1 per litre (January 2008)
Marbella is a must to visit, especially Porta Banus. See the fantastic array of sea going cruisers. There is an abundance of top quality restaurants, they tend to be more expensive than other areas. Definately worth the extra just for the view.
